Why Pet Dental Care is Important
Pet Dental Cleaning Process & What to Expect
Before the dental cleaning, we will perform a thorough examination of your pet’s mouth to check for any signs of dental disease. If necessary, we may also take x-rays to get a better look at your pet’s teeth and gums. The dental cleaning itself involves removing plaque and tartar buildup from your pet’s teeth, both above and below the gum line. This is done using an ultrasonic scaler and high-speed polisher to ensure that your pet’s teeth are thoroughly cleaned. The procedure is done under anesthesia to ensure your pet’s safety and comfort.
We recommend blood work prior to the dental procedure to ensure the safest and most ideal anesthetic regimen for your pet. During the cleaning, your pet will be under anesthesia, so they will not feel any pain or discomfort. After the cleaning, your pet may experience some mild discomfort and may need to eat soft food for a few days. We may also prescribe pain medication or antibiotics if necessary. It is important to follow our post-operative instructions for post-cleaning care to ensure that your pet heals properly.
* We will refer patients to a veterinary dentist for advanced periodontal care, root canals, and other more involved procedures.
